How GPA is calculated

GPA = Σ(Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ(Credit Hours)

Multiply each course’s grade point by its credit hours, add the results, then divide by the total credit hours included under your university’s rules. The formula may be similar across universities, but the grade point assigned to a mark or letter grade can differ.

Absolute and relative grading

Absolute grading

Grades are assigned using predefined marks or percentage ranges where these are officially specified. A calculator must use the institution’s published ranges and grade points.

Relative grading

Course grades may depend partly on performance relative to the class. Raw marks alone cannot always be reliably converted into an official grade; students may need the letter grade issued by their university.

Why your university’s rules matter

One universal Pakistani GPA calculator cannot account for every academic policy. University-specific calculations need to reflect the rules that apply to your programme and cohort.

Grading and conversion
Grading scales, grade points, marks-to-grade rules, and official CGPA-to-percentage conversion methods can differ.

Academic record rules
Repeated courses, failed courses, withdrawals, and cohort or regulation versions may affect which results and credit hours count.

Built around published university regulations

Before launching a university calculator, Skills Quest reviews available official academic regulations and grading documentation. Each calculator is designed around the rules we are able to verify and includes its source and verification date.

Found an outdated grading rule?

University policies can change. Students will be able to report a grading-policy update so Skills Quest can review it against official university documentation.
